• OpenGDP is building the Global Base Layer for Programmable GDP: a novel Layer 1 blockchain purpose-built for tokenizing, exchanging, and coordinating entire economies at internet scale.
• As we rapidly move from Devnet to Testnet and beyond, the OpenGDP Foundation is introducing the design direction for $GDP, the proposed native asset of the OpenGDP Network.

OpenGDP starts from a simple but demanding question:

What would global economic infrastructure look like if we designed it from first principles, assuming 24/7 global markets, instant settlements, and permissionless access to global liquidity?

The answer we are pursuing is a single, composable base layer that provides full-stack market infrastructure for:

• Tokenization for representing real-world assets, services, and data onchain.
• Exchange for native price discovery, trading, and settlement.
• Coordination for compliance, payments, clearing, and multi-party workflows.
• OpenGDP Network Stack (ONS) for sovereign, specialized networks powered by shared security and interoperability.

To make this work at scale, the network needs a native asset that can secure the system, align participants across thousands of jurisdictions and institutions, and serve as a common thread between many onchain economies.

That is the role we envision for $GDP.

What $GDP is designed to do

Subject to change and further review, we expect $GDP to be designed around a few core roles:

1. Security

   • Support the security of the OpenGDP L1 and, over time, ONS networks.
   • Sit alongside assets like BTC, ETH, high-quality stablecoins, and premium tokenized RWAs as part of the anchor capital for onchain economies.
   • Align validators, infra providers, and builders around long-term network health.

2. Interoperability

   • Act as a coordination primitive for sovereign blockchain networks built with ONS: a way to tie security, settlement, and governance hooks together across many blockchains and jurisdictions.

3. Network utility

   • Over time, and only where appropriate, $GDP may be used for fees, governance, or other protocol utilities.
   • Any such roles will be defined clearly in future, dedicated materials.

All of the above is directional, not final. Parameters and mechanics will evolve as the protocol, regulation, and real-world usage evolve.
